We’ve published Newham’s latest Highway Maintenance Transparency Report for 2026/27, giving residents a clear view of how we look after and invest in the borough’s roads, footways and other vital highway assets.
Newham’s highway network is one of the largest and busiest in London. It includes:
- 431km of roads
- 706km of footways
- 72 highway structures, including bridges and subways
- Plus thousands of gullies, signs, streetlights and other essential assets that keep the borough moving.
This year’s report sets out the condition of our network, how we prioritise repairs, and the full programme of planned maintenance works for 2026/27.
What We’re Delivering This Year
Our planned works for 2026/27 include:
- 8.9km of road resurfacing to improve safety and ride quality
- 2.7km of preventative micro-asphalting to extend the life of roads before they deteriorate
- 5.3km of footway renewal to improve accessibility and reduce trip hazards
- Drainage improvements to reduce surface water and localised flooding
- Maintenance of key structures across the borough
- Upgrades to street lighting to improve visibility and energy efficiency
These works are part of our long-term strategy to keep Newham’s highways safe, resilient and well maintained.
