Mayor Fiaz Statement on the Death of Sir David Amess MP
“All of us in Newham are deeply shocked at the terrible news of Sir David Amess' death this afternoon. Our thoughts and condolences go to his family, friends, staff and his constituents in Southend. Sir David had deep roots in Newham, having been born in the borough and was still a regular visitor. Those that serve in public life should be free to do so without fearing for their lives. This is a dark day for our democracy, but we redouble our efforts to tackle hatred and violence everywhere that it exists.”
