Inspection to start next week of services for young people with special education needs and disabilities

Inspection to start next week of services for young people with special education needs and disabilities.

Next week (from Monday 6 December), Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission (CQC) will carry out of a local area review (LAR) to assess the impact and effectiveness of services for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

Inspectors will meet with children and young people who receive the services as well as partners, stakeholders and providers as part of the five day visit. They will also visit early years settings, schools and colleges. The visit will adhere with all Covid-19 requirements.

The views of young people and their parents/carers are critical to the review and inspectors are keen to engage with them throughout the process. In order to capture the views ofas many young people as possible, a survey will be available from today (Monday 29 November) until midnight on Tuesday 7 December. The survey can be found here.

Parents and carers can also email their contributions to Lasend.support@ofsted.gov.uk

The focus of the inspection is on the effectiveness of the local area since the introduction of reforms in September 2014.

Information on local area duties toward children and young people with SEND can be found on the Department for Education’s website.
