Newham Council statement on confirmed case of Omicron

Newham Council have been informed that one of our residents has tested positive with the Covid variant Omicron.

Our Public Health team are working closely with the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), who lead on the follow up of these cases and they will be identifying any other ‘at risk’ contacts of the resident concerned.

We wish the resident, and anyone else affected by this case, comfort during this time.  As part of our Covid-19 response locally, we will provide support to anyone affected to safely isolate as we have done with all Covid cases in the borough since the start of the pandemic last year.

The confirmation of one Omicron case in our borough reinforces the important public health messages we have been promoting with our residents and in our communities, including how vital it is that we all get vaccinated, have a booster jab, wear masks to protect each other and stay safe.

Since the emergence of the Omicron variant in the UK, many residents have been coming forward for their first, second and booster vaccines over recent days; and we encourage everyone who is eligible to book appointments as soon as they can.

As part of our ongoing programme of Covid-19 engagement sessions, we are hosting a community Q & A session with our NHS colleagues on Omicron and the current Covid situation tomorrow evening at 6pm and would encourage as many local residents to join. Joining details are as follows:
