Statement from Mayor of Newham, Rokhsana Fiaz OBE, on the death of Kirsty Louise Ashley

Mayor Rokhsana Fiaz said: "Following the shocking news about the murder of Kirsty Louise Ashley on Boxing Day, I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to her family and friends at this devastating time.

“We must put an end to the epidemic of violence against women and girls in this country. We will be working with partners to conduct a partnership review into the circumstances surrounding this tragic case."

Cllr James Beckles, Cabinet member for Crime and Community Satety said: "All women and girls should feel safe in their homes and neighbourhoods, but we know that far too many continue to face harassment, abuse and violence. Through our Violence Against Women and Girls strategy in Newham, which tackles both domestic violence and harassment on our streets, we will continue to prioritise our actions as we work with partners and the wider community to address these crimes."
