Free entertainment comes to Green Street for the half-term weekend

Newham Council and Applecart Arts stage the Green Street Celebration in Upton Park, funded by European Regional Development Fund and HM Government as part of The Welcome Back Fund. This will feature an array of free performances, workshops and activities for everyone to enjoy on 19 and 20 February.

The main attraction will be stages all over Green Street filled with colourful characters, musicians and magicians booked to get the public laughing, sing and dancing. Other attractions will include arts and crafts, African drumming, Bollywood dancing, vintage singer Franny De Light, an interactive film set at the Blockbuster Factory and the creation of Illustrating Newham, a collaborative piece of artwork celebrating the best of the local community.

These workshops, performances and activities will be at Queen’s Market, Queen’s Square, St Stephens Parade, the Crescent Road pedestrian area, plus the Park Road and Neville Road junctions with Green Street.

The event will also be celebrating 10 years since the Olympics and Paralympics came to Newham.

East Ham-based Applecart will also be recording and live streaming performances and events taking place on the Queen’s Market stage, broadcasting events online. Over 45% of those involved in the organising of the event, including the acts and production team, are based in Newham. So the event is helping to support the community wealth building as well as the recovery of this important and vibrant high street.

There are still some volunteering opportunities for anyone who would like to be part of the event and is interested in learning more about what is involved in organising and running an event: contact joan@applecartarts.com
