Newham council acquires urgently needed homes for residents

Newham Council has successfully acquired homes that will be out to use for urgently needed accommodation for residents.

The properties on Barking Road in Plaistow is a 19 unit new build development that was acquired by Populo Living, and wholly funded by Newham Council.

The homes will be used to house families who are currently in temporary accommodation giving them affordable secure homes to live in.

Councillor Terence Paul, Cabinet Lead for Finance and Corporate Services said: “This acquisition shows the council making a good strategic cost efficient purchase that is to the benefit of  19 families, who had previously been in temporary accommodation some for a significant time and who urgently needed a home  with an assured short hold tenancy to live in.”

Newham has an ambition to do more of this work and calls upon developers to approach the council. Any such enquiries can be made to sam.faulding@newham.gov.uk
