Important changes to volunteering, allotments and pitch bookings in Newham from April 1, 2022

Volunteering, using an allotment or booking our sports pitches or a park space for an event are key ways to enhance wellbeing.

Newham Council is committed to help improve the health and wellbeing of all residents, and the way residents and community groups access these key services via our leisure offer is changing.

From April 1, 2022, our volunteers service, that matches residents to opportunities to volunteer, and our allotments and parks bookings, which are currently managed by activeNewham, will transfer to the Council. From this date the Council will be responsible for:

  • Applications for, and management of, allotments
  • Management of 1500 active volunteers
  • Bookings for open spaces for events and sporting facilities (football pitches, etc)

The review and transfer of services has been designed to ensure future delivery of these services align with the Council’s corporate priorities, including the Volunteer and Social Integration strategies as well as the boroughs approach to 50 Steps to a healthier Newham.
