A football tournament at Newham Leisure Centre helps to build positive relationships between Newham young people and the Met Police.

Teams from Beckton Youth Zone, Met Police, Active Newham, Rights and Equalities in Newham (REIN), Fight for Peace, DOST Centre for Young Refugees and Migrants and the Royal Docks Learning & Activity Centre (RDLAC), took part in the round robin tournament at Newham Leisure Centre yesterday afternoon.

The Mets Borough commander, along with Cllr Wilson and Cllr Lee-Phakoe also attended and watched the engaging game between the teams.

Cllr Neil Wilson, Cabinet Member for Health and Adult Social Care, said: “This is a great opportunity to build positive relationships between young people, the police and local organisations as well as to ensure our young people are getting active.”

Cllr Carleene Lee-Phakoe, Cabinet Member for Crime and Community Safety, also added: “It was a pleasure to attend the community football match organised by Active Newham, partnering with Rights and Equalities in Newham, held at Newham Leisure Centre.

“Initiatives like today's football match between young people and the Met police officers from the NE BCU go a long way to deepening the ties between our police service, partners, and our communities here in Newham.“
