Support with funding and educational plans

Personal Education Plan

It is a statutory requirement that a personal education plan (PEP) for each Looked After child is prepared, reviewed and kept up to date.

PEPs form part of the child’s overall care plan. The Newham Virtual School leads on this process and works with social work colleagues, foster carers, school colleagues and other professionals to ensure that the PEP process is carried out in a timely and effective manner.

Pupil Premium Plus

The Newham Virtual School manages the Pupil Premium Grant Plus for Looked After Children. This funding is provided by the Department of Education to raise the attainment of Looked After Children (LAC) and to help close the attainment gap with their peers.

NVS works with schools and other educational provision to agree expenditure on planned interventions such as tuition, specialist equipment etc. which support targets agreed in Personal Education Plan. The Newham Virtual School Pupil Premium Policy is available to download as a PDF

The Pupil Premium Grant for Previously Looked After Children is managed by schools and is outside the remit of NVS. Parents whose have children subject to Adoption Order, Special Guardianship or Child Arrangement Order should inform schools and other education provision of their situation.
