In year admissions

How to apply

If this is the first time you are applying for an in-year school place this term, please fill in and submit the In-Year Common Application Form below.

Online in-year common application form

The form will take 15-20 minutes to complete. You will be unable to save the form as you go along, so before you start make sure you have:

  • The parents/carers National Insurance number
  • The parents/carers NASS reference number (if you are an asylum seeker)
  • The parents/carers address and the child's address if different
  • The child's doctor and dentist details
  • Details of the child's social worker (if applicable)
  • Details of any recent exclusions from school (if applicable).
  • Details of the child’s Special Educational or medical needs (if applicable)
  • Details of any GCSE exams being studied by your child (if applicable).

If you have already submitted an In-Year Common Application Form this term and want to change your application (for example, by changing your school preferences or the order of your preferences), please fill in and submit the Change my in-year school application form instead.

Please email us with a screen shot of the problem you are having if you cannot submit any of your online in-year common application forms to SchoolAdmissions@newham.gov.uk  or phone: 020 8430 2000

Results

We start processing application forms when our schools open in the week ending 4 September 2026. Applications are then processed within 15 schools days.  We will only reply if we can offer a place at one of the schools on your application or if your child lives in Newham and does not have a school place in Newham. The first offers will be made in the week beginning 28 September 2026.

Places cannot be guaranteed as schools may not have spaces for everyone who applies. The How We Offer Places section explains how we process applications and our waiting list process.

If your child is already attending a school, we will not offer a different school if none of the schools listed on your application has a place available.  If we are unable to offer a place at one or more of your higher preference schools, your child will automatically be added to the waiting list for those schools.  Waiting lists are cleared at the end of each school term. If a place becomes available before the end of the term, we will contact you automatically to let you know.  If you have not received an offer from the waiting list by the end of the term, you will need to submit a new application to add your child's name on the new waiting list for the following term, as waiting lists are refreshed at the start of each term.

It is the responsibility of parents and carers to make sure their child receives suitable education. Your child must therefore continue to attend their current school or the school we have offered until a space is available at the schools you have applied for.

Important note:

This is one of the busiest times for all school admission teams. We will reply as soon as we can to all enquiries. Please bear with us during this busy time.

Newham schools that manage their own waiting list (Word)

If your child is on the waiting list for one of these schools and we got your application before 28 August 2026, please contact the school directly (not Newham Council) from 15 September 2026 to find out your child’s position on the waiting list

Waiting lists for all other Newham schools

If we cannot offer your child a place at your first preference school, we will automatically put them on the waiting list for any schools you ranked higher than the one we offered.

We send waiting list position updates by email every Tuesday for all the schools we manage from 8 September 2026

In-year admission appeals

You have the right to appeal if your child is not offered a place at one of your preferred schools and you listed those schools higher than the school we offered you or we could not offer you another school.
