Details
- The Newham Greenway, forming part of Cycleway 22, The Jubilee Greenway and Capital Ring, is a popular strategic walking and cycling route in Newham. It is situated on the Northern Outfall Sewer (NOS) operated by Thames Water. It has the status of a permissive path, meaning Thames Water has the right to close the path when maintenance of the sewer infrastructure is required.
- Since September 2024 Thames Water has closed the Greenway in the section between the Manor Road bridge and the Channelsea Path for maintenance works.
- Due to the need for further maintenance works identified during investigations, Thames Water plan on extending the closure westwards to High Street Stratford, and eastwards to Upper Road, in phases. See the Thames Water website for details about the closures, including maps and timescales.
- Newham Council is working closely with Thames Water, seeking to minimise the duration and extent of any closures wherever possible.
- As soon as we have been made aware of the planned closures, we have also been working to design and deliver improvements on identified diversion routes wherever possible, within the constraints of available funding, staff resource and relevant external approvals required.
