What is a Timed Waste Collection?
Newham Council provides a Timed Waste Collection for residents who live in flats above shops on busy roads who have no space to store a bin on their property. Living on a timed waste collection road means that you will only be able to place your bags out for collection within your set times each day.
Creating a pleasant, clean and safe environment is a key ambition of the council and our residents. By asking residents only to present their waste during collection times shown on the next page, we can help to make Newham a more pleasant place for people to live and work
How Timed Waste Collections Work?
Every six months you will receive a roll of purple and orange bags. The purple bags are for rubbish only and the orange bags are for recycling only. Please leave your rubbish in closed purple bags and your recycling in closed orange bags at the set times ONLY. Please place your rubbish and recycling under the timed collection signs displayed on your street. Please ensure bags are closed securely before placing on the street.
We will only collect your bags of recycling and rubbish that have been left on the street at set times. Do not put rubbish out before or after these times and days. Residents who don’t follow the correct procedure not only risk their street being littered with household rubbish or recycling but may also face a fine. Putting rubbish or recycling out on the street for collection at any other time may result in a £200 fixed penalty notice, £1000 fine or prosecution.
Note that if you are currently using a bin which you permanently store on your property, timed collections will not affect you and you should continue to use your bin as normal. If you do not know your collection day, please click here to find out.
Businesses that have bag collections from their trade waste company must place them out at the same time as resident collections. Newham’s purple and orange bags are only for the use of residents in flats above shops.
