The King’s Coronation Community Grant - This programme is now closed!

This programme is now closed!

The Coronation ceremony for His Majesty King Charles III will take place on Saturday 6 May 2023 at Westminster Abbey. An extra bank holiday on Monday 8 May will give communities throughout the United Kingdom the opportunity to mark the event.

This will be an historic moment and we know people will want to come together to celebrate it in style. Newham Council wants to help local people do just that so we have set up The King’s Coronation community grant to help support community celebrations. It will be a wonderful opportunity for communities to come together to recognise this great occasion, as well as enjoy each other’s company.

  • The King’s Coronation Community grant will open on Thursday 16 Feb and close on Friday 17 March.
  • Residents and community groups are invited to organise celebratory events for The King’s Coronation between Sunday 7 May to Wednesday 10 May 2023.
  • Grant applications can be made up to a maximum of £500.
  • Those receiving a grant will also receive a waiver of all non-statutory fees and charges such as road closures, hire of Council community venues, parks and libraries.

It is a condition of this grants programme that all events are free to enter / at no cost to the public - charging for any part of your event is not permitted.

This application will help us understand what type of event you would like to organise. Please do give as much information as possible in order for us to be able to assist you.

If a Road Closure is required for your event, you will need to provide details of the road(s) affected, including supporting documents from a consultation with local neighbours/businesses. Please note that that event cannot take place along bus routes.

You will need to submit this form before 5pm on the closing date of Thursday 17 March 2023.
