Youth and Schools
For the 2024/2025 academic year all maintained schools will be visited by Retrofit Action For Tomorrow (RAFT), who will identify potential interventions and create a bespoke roadmap to decarbonisation for each school.
If your school has yet to be contacted about this, please reach out to climate.action@newham.gov.uk.
Newham has partnered with Street Trees for Living to help deliver improved biodiversity across the borough, including at schools.
We have introduced Healthy School Streets, which are are roads with timed access restrictions for most motor vehicles at school start and finish times. This makes it safer and easier for children and their families to walk, cycle or scoot to school.
We encourage schools to deliver positive climate action across the borough through providing support around:
- Energy and Retrofit
- Creating a Climate Action Plan
- Zero Waste Projects
- Healthy Food Projects
- Biodiversity Projects
- Sustainable Transport
- Accessing Grant Opportunities that could cover the cost of retrofitting measures
For further information on what projects, programmes and schemes schools can get involved with for the 24/25 academic year, please see this pack: Schools 24-25 Climate Pack.
Newham School Council Network
