Lady Helen Seymour House

Lady Helen Seymour House Refurbishment

Lady Helen Seymour House is being refurbished to provide high‑quality supported accommodation for people who are engaged in support services and are moving away from rough sleeping, helping them to stabilise and progress towards independent living.

The project forms part of Newham Council’s wider approach to improving housing options for vulnerable residents, while strengthening community safety through well‑managed, well‑designed facilities.

Lady Helen Seymour House has a long history of supporting people through periods of transition.

This refurbishment represents not a break from that history, but a modern extension of the building’s original spirit of support and dignity.

About the project

The Council has secured funding through the Government’s Single Homeless Accommodation Programme and has appointed Buxton Building Contractors Ltd to carry out the refurbishment works.

The building is being restored, in keeping with its heritage, to create:

  • 42 self‑contained en‑suite bedrooms
  • 24‑hour onsite staffing
  • A mix of assessment centre and step‑down beds

The refurbished building will provide a safe, supportive environment that enables residents to move towards independence.

A space offering safety, dignity and pathways to independence – continuing a legacy of supporting life transitions.

How the service will operate

Lady Helen Seymour House will function as a supported accommodation scheme, with:

  • Onsite staff available 24 hours a day
  • Structured, personalised support for residents
  • Clear pathways to longer‑term housing and independence

Residents will be supported to stabilise, rebuild confidence, and move forward positively.

Subject to final approvals, early site works are expected to begin in May/June 2026.

Working together with the community

We are committed to engaging openly with the local community throughout the project.

We want to keep residents informed and provide clear opportunities to ask questions and share feedback. This page will be updated with resident engagement dates, frequently asked questions, newsletters posted through doors and online refurbishment progress updates as the project moves forward.
