Social work – Children and young people
Our children’s services have been rated outstanding in all areas!
Newham’s Children’s Services are officially ‘outstanding’ across all areas, according to the latest Ofsted report. Inspectors found children in need of help and protection, those in care and those who are care leavers receive excellent support and benefit from very stable relationships with their workers who know them extremely well. The judgement shows an ‘outstanding’ rating across all four areas: ‘the impact of leaders on social work practice with children and families’; ‘the experiences and progress of children who need help and protection’; ‘the experiences and progress of children in care’; ‘the experiences and progress of care leavers’, as well as ‘overall effectiveness’.
We’ve implemented an ambitious programme of improvement to Children and Young People's social care practice and processes that have radically changed the way we work with families and each other in Newham. .

Why you should work for us
Newham is a great place to be a social worker. It’s an incredibly diverse borough with a young population and is experiencing considerable regeneration as part of the Olympic legacy. Newham presents challenges and opportunities that will help to take your career to the next level.
Social workers are at the core of our work with children and families. Our approach is about enabling social workers to build relationships with children, young people and their carers in order to deliver real, meaningful change for children.
We’ve worked hard to make Newham a great place to be a Social Worker with a commitment to addressing disproportionality wherever we find it- we are signed up tothe Social Care Workforce Race Equality Standard and the CYPS directorate are actively leading in the Tackling Racism, Inequality and Disproportionately (TRID) Steering Group.
