Newham Council Invites Expressions of Interest to Redevelop Former Newham City Farm Site in Beckton

Eoi former newham city farm site

Newham is seeking partners to transform the former City Farm in King George V Park into a Community Farm and Green Skills Hub, supporting training, urban agriculture and community programmes.

Set within King George V Park, the former Newham City Farm has a long history as a community farm and green space. The Council is seeking an experienced, collaborative group of organisations to reimagine the area as a Community Farm and Green Skills Hub, delivering lasting social, environmental and economic benefits for residents and the wider borough.

This unique opportunity calls for a team with a diverse range of skills that will support the design, delivery and operation of a vibrant, innovative and self-sustaining hub for the community. The revitalised site is expected to support green skills training; urban agriculture; education; volunteering; wellbeing programmes and community engagement; while contributing to Newham’s Growth Plan (PDF), Just Transition Plan (PDF), and Beckton Parks Masterplan.

Councillor John Whitworth, Cabinet Member for Air Quality, Climate Emergency & Environment, said: “It’s not often that something like this comes along, and it offers the right partner a golden opportunity.

“Over the next few years, Newham will be growing on a huge scale, with lots of new development taking place right across the borough.

“That’s why assets such as this are so important. We may live in a city, but we still need that connection to the countryside.”

The Council are particularly keen to hear from partnerships that can demonstrate:

  • A strong, inclusive vision aligned with the Council’s Growth Plan and Community Wealth Building priorities
  • A robust and financially sustainable operating model
  • Meaningful community involvement and long-term local stewardship

Deadline to submit your proposal: 28 February 2026

A full information pack, including detailed site information and the Expression of Interest submission requirements, is available on request to interested parties.
