Plaistow

Place of Play Mural (Shape Newham)

Shape Newham launched in 2019 to co-design and install imaginative and original public space improvement projects across the borough.

The Place of Play mural at Plaistow Park was developed with young people from Lister Community School and the charity Race Equality in Newham (REIN). Together they explored Plaistow’s identity and what it means to live there by producing a set of motifs which reflect the area.

The name Place of Play comes from the Old English meaning of Plaistow – ‘a playing place’ known for theatre and recreation.

The design of the project was led by Dis/Order and the installation was completed in Autumn 2021.
