Recycling collections and information

What can I recycle?

For information on recycling, please have a look at our what you can put in your recycling bin and what you can't put in your recycling bin pages.

Recycleopedia

Recycleopedia is a handy tool that lets you look up household items and find out what bin they should go in. You need to use a full Newham postcode for it to work.

To find out what items you can take to nearby recycling facilities visit the Recycle for London website.

Ecobot

Ecobot is a mascot based on designs originally suggested by schoolchildren and developed by the council to help increase recycling across the borough.

Your recycling collection day

Most recycling collections are every fortnight. We generally collect your recycling on the same day as your rubbish, but only every two weeks.

If you live on a street where most people use orange bags, we may still collect your recycling every week.

Find your recycling collection day using My Neighbourhood

Where to put out your recycling

Store your recycling bin or bags within the boundary of your property, and put them out for collection by 6am on the collection day. If you use orange bags, please make sure you tie them up properly before you put them out next to your rubbish bin/bags for collection.

Reusable furniture items

If you have furniture items you no longer need that you think could be used by someone else, you can find out how to donate them here  Or bring them along to Jenkins Lane Re-use and Recycling Centre where staff will have a look at items to see if they are in good enough condition to be reused.
