Dog and animal fouling

Dog waste is a nuisance, but it can also be a danger, particularly to young children.

Report dog fouling

Help keep Newham’s streets clean.

If you have a smart phone or tablet, you can also report dog waste when you see it using our Love Newham app.

If you know someone who is not clearing up after their dog, you can speak to Community Safety for free on 020 8430 2000. We won’t ask for your name.

Why it is important to clean up after your dog

Dog waste can lead to serious illnesses such as Toxocariasis (round worm infection).

It is your responsibility to clear up after your pet. The Dogs Trust offers advice on dog fouling for owners.

Where to get rid of your dog's waste

You can get rid of your dog's waste in:
  • an allocated dog bin
  • any black litter bin.

Fines for dog fouling

If you let your dog leave waste and you don’t clear it up, we can fine you £80 on the spot. If you don’t pay the fine, we can take you to court where the maximum fine is £1,000. If one of our officers asks you for your name and address and you don’t give it, we could fine you £1,000.

If you are a council tenant or leaseholder and you cause a nuisance to neighbours and other residents because of dog fouling or not keeping your dog under control we can take action against you.

You can find more information about dog control orders.
