What is a Go For It grant?

We have been awarding Go For It grants for the last ten years and funded more than 1750 projects with almost £1.75 million in total. The grants have made many community activities and opportunities available for Newham residents.

Go For It grants give funding for not-for-profit projects and regular activities that can bring communities together and encourage people to take part.

What can I get a Go For It grant for?

Projects or activities that qualify for a grant

To qualify for a Go For It grant, your project must be a not-for-profit venture. Private businesses cannot apply.

We give funding for community-based ideas that offer residents regular activities they can participate in, for example, bringing people together with a shared interest in acting that leads to setting up a local amateur dramatics club.

You will need to demonstrate that your project will:
  • continue, if possible, after the grant has been spent
  • be open to Newham residents from all backgrounds
  • actively encourage Newham’s diverse community to come together
  • inspire people to get active, participate and fulfil their potential.

Projects or activities that don't qualify for a grant

You will not be eligible for a Go For It grant if your project or activity:
  • targets only a limited part of the borough’s diverse community
  • takes place outside Newham
  • has already received a Go For It grant for the same activity
  • is a one-off activity or event.
We cannot give you a grant to cover organisational or running costs that are not directly related to a specific activity programme.

Examples of previously funded projects

We have helped all sorts of projects and activities to get off the ground with Go For It grants. They include:
  • local garden projects
  • dance activities
  • sports tournaments
  • activities for older people
  • children’s facilities
  • community choirs.
