How we make decisions

As a council with a directly elected Mayor, our decision making process differs from that of most councils.

Decisions are made either by:

  • A meeting of the full council or one of its committees; or
  • By the Mayor with or without her cabinet; or
  • By council officers.

In this section you can find out where to get information on our policy proposals and decisions, our decision making process and our public consultations.

The Forward Plan and Notice of Forthcoming Decisions

The Forward Plan is a list of our important decisions that we will make over the next one to four months, the page also lists any urgent decisions that will be made by the Mayor and Cabinet and via Officer delegation.

Advice of decision notices can be seen by browsing the decision register.  Decisions that have been taken by officers under delegation can be seen by browsing Officer Decisions”.

Have your say on council decisions

You can voice your concerns and issues with us by speaking at council meetings. You can also attend public meetings of the council to observe proceedings. In addition to this we also run public consultations to hear from the local community about our plans.
