Birth and death registration
Important: The Register Office will be closed on 24 May. The emergency burial service will be available from 9am to 4pm.
You will need to arrange an appointment to register a birth or death. If you are registering a stillbirth, a walk-in service is available.
You will have to create a MyNewham account to be able to access the online appointment booking system.

Emergency burial service
This service is for the issue of emergency burial certificates only. The service is usually available:
- 12 noon to 4pm on Saturday afternoons, and
- 9am to 4pm on Sundays and bank holidays.
If you need this service call 07801 244 805.
You must then arrange an appointment and go to the East Ham Town Hall to register the death during the following week.
Tell Us Once Service
Tell Us Once is a free government service that allows you to report a death when you suffer a bereavement and need to tell central and local government.
When someone has died, there are lots of things that need to be done and the Tell Us Once Service will make that easier to do. This will include notifying a number of government departments and local council services who need to know:
When you use Tell Us Once, the services notified will include:
- DWP pensions and benefits
- Personal tax
- Council tax
- Passport
- Driving licence
- Blue Badge
- Electoral register.
