Nahid's story: Raising children between two worlds

Nahid moved to the UK eight years ago and now lives in Newham with her family. As a migrant mother, she wanted to better understand the experiences of other women raising children between cultures.

Through interviews and conversations with migrant mothers, Nahid explored the challenges many women face, including loneliness, language barriers, cultural expectations and accessing support services.

Her research found that many mothers felt isolated and overwhelmed, particularly when trying to navigate schools, healthcare and everyday life in a language that was not their own.

At the same time, she also heard stories of resilience, friendship and community support.

One of the strongest messages from her research was the importance of creating safe spaces where women can connect, share experiences and access support.

"Language is the biggest barrier. Many mothers can't understand letters or forms."

Nahid hopes her research will help raise awareness of the challenges migrant mothers face and encourage greater understanding and support within local communities.

Her message is simple:

"Don't give up. Learn the language and keep going."
