Volunteering in Newham

Volunteers

Newham’s Volunteers Programme is a Newham Council initiative which started in 2004. It is open to everyone from 16+ onwards, working professionals, retired, students, young people, those with disability, refugees and asylum seekers. Annually, we have around 500 active volunteers, giving up an average of 20,000+ hours of volunteering per year, in over 300 different opportunities.

Newham’s Volunteers is based on best practice in volunteering. We want to create a high quality, skilled database of people to volunteer for a range of activities and events, including working closely with voluntary, community and faith sector groups in the borough.

Our flexible service provides both short and long-term opportunities in a number of different fields, allowing residents to give as little or as much time as they can spare.

Our service also provides support to organisations who would like to recruit and involve volunteers to add value to their existing service or programmes. So if your organisation needs support, contact us. We will support you so you can be the very best you can be, while helping those around you.

Volunteer brokerage

Working closely with voluntary, community & faith groups and other organisations, we aim to be the recognised volunteer hub offering a volunteer brokerage system, whereby we can signpost residents to a variety of volunteer organisations and opportunities across Newham.

If you are a voluntary, community or faith organisation, we can offer our volunteer management system ‘Kinetic’ which can be used for free. This will allow you to manage your own volunteers and opportunities with complete control of your own site, enabling you to directly link your own volunteers to your organisation and opportunities. This will aid groups to also tap into our network of volunteers and help you to build your own pool of regular volunteers.
