Drugs & Alcohol

Affected by someone else's drug or alcohol misuse

BSL Support

You are eligible for a carers assessment if you provide, or intend to provide, unpaid care or support on a regular basis for someone who would not be able to manage without help due to:

  • Age
  • A physical or mental illness
  • Substance misuse
  • Disability.

You are eligible for an assessment in your own right, even if the person you care for refuses:

  • A community care assessment
  • The support that is being offered to them.

The person you care for may or may not live with you. A carers assessment is not a test of your ability as a carer, but an opportunity to look at ways in which we can support you in your caring role.

More information about support offered by Newham Council for carer can be found here

Newham Rise Drug & Alcohol Service can help if you:

  • Are worried about the drug or alcohol use of a family member or someone you care for
  • Would like to speak to someone about how another person’s drug or alcohol use is affecting you

Newham Rise provides free and confidential information, advice and support, reflecting on your own needs and wellbeing without any judgement.

The person who is using drugs or alcohol doesn’t need to be in treatment with the service.

To find out more, you can contact Newham Rise by telephone on 0800 652 3879 or make a referral online.
