What is a fire risk assessment
Assessments cover the communal areas of buildings and include a clear action plan to show what work needs to be done and when.
The assessment helps the council:
-
identify fire hazards and how to control them
-
understand how likely a fire is and what could happen if one starts
-
take practical steps to reduce risks and improve safety
-
make sure clear, safe escape routes are in place
They are reviewed on an annual or three-yearly cycle depending on the type of building you live in. They are also reviewed after any significant building work to make sure safety is maintained.
A person-centred fire risk assessment (PCFRA) identifies potential risks and sets out safety actions to keep residents safe, based on their personal circumstances. It takes into account such things as mobility, vulnerability and health requirements. The assessment also looks at fire protection measures, such as alarms, exit routes, and measures to prevent fire spreading.
What this means to you
If you require a copy of your fire risk assessment, email firesafety@newham.gov.uk.
Person-centred fire risk assessments help us record any extra support residents need in the event of fire. They allow us to identify measures that could help protect you and make sure your individual needs are considered as part of our approach to fire safety.
