Simple steps to reduce fire risks at home. 

What to do if you spot a fire 

  • call 999 immediately 

  • know your escape routes and exit your home as quickly as you can 

  • raise the alarm if it is safe to do so 

  • do not attempt to fight a fire unless safe to do so 

How to reduce fire risks at home 

  • never leave cooking pans unattended on the hob 

  • use fire guards with open fires or woodburning stoves 

  • follow instructions for portable heaters 

  • don’t leave e-bike and e-scooters charging overnight 

Smoke alarms and escape planning 

  • ensure smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are working 

  • keep escape routes clear 

Fire safety support for carers or vulnerable residents
