Completing the application form
To apply for a job online you will need to register, for which you will need a valid email address.
To register you must enter your email address and chose a password. You will then receive an email which will tell you that you have registered successfully.
Completing the form
You must complete all sections of the online application form which are relevant to you as clearly and fully as possible.
The supporting statement is the most important part of the application. It is your chance to show how your skills and experience meet the criteria set out on the personnel specification.
Make sure you:
- Avoid unspecific statements such as 'I have all the skills and abilities mentioned in the person specification'
- Use examples
- Do not copy and paste from your CV.
You should fully explain how you meet the requirement. For example, if the person specification asked for "experience of working with elderly people", you need to explain when, where and what was involved.
For example: "I worked in a residential care home for 50 frail elderly residents. Working as part of a team of highly-qualified and attentive staff we focused on the individual needs of our residents with person-centered care. This involved 24 hour personal care. Our role was also to provide cooking support, hospitality and organising activities for our residents. Our home was rated 'Good' by the Commission of Social Care Inspection (CSCI)."
If you don’t have much past job experience, you can mention any experience gained at school or college, at home, in voluntary work, on work experience or through hobbies.
For example: I helped to care for my grandmother for three years. She lived in the family home and I helped her to wash and dress each morning. I also helped with personal care including…'
Please remember that managers when sifting applications have a checklist of the criteria with scores for how each candidate meets them.
It is best to first complete your supporting statement in Microsoft Word, then upload it.
