Planning policy and the Local Plan

Planning policy and the Local Plan

This page provides information on how Newham’s Local Plan is developed, evidenced, consulted on, monitored, and reviewed. In this section you can find out more about what the Local Plan currently contains, and the policies and considerations that will affect whether a proposal can be granted permission.

Local Development Scheme

The Local Development Scheme tells you how we prepare our plans and what planning documents we will publish in the coming years. The current LDS was approved by councillors at the Cabinet meeting on 20 July 2021.

Statement of Community Involvement

The Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) (July 2015) explains how we will engage with local and statutory stakeholders to prepare local planning documents and carry out development management functions.

We are currently consulting on a new draft Statement of Community Involvement. The draft SCI reflects feedback received during the previous round of consultation that took place in 2019. We have also incorporated new consultation methods and changes as a result of Covid-19. To comment on the draft Statement of Community Involvement (PDF)visit the Newham Co-Create platform or email your comments to [email protected], by 17th December 2021. Hard copies of the Statement of Community Involvement are available at Newham libraries during normal opening hours.

London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC)

If your development proposal falls within the boundaries of the London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC) they will be the relevant Local Planning Authority and your proposal will be assessed in accordance with their Local Plan. Visit the LLDC website for more information.
