16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence

How to Get Involved

Everyone can take part and help raise awareness:

  • Wear a white ribbon on 25 November to show your support for White Ribbon Day.
  • Wear something orange between 25 November and 10 December – orange represents hope and a future free from violence.
  • Download a pledge card (PDF) and share your personal or group commitment.
  • Attend a local event or workshopview the full calendar here (PDF) 
  • Share your support on social media by posting a photo wearing orange and holding your pledge card. Use hashtags #NoExcuse and #ACTtoEndViolence
  • Light up your space orange – whether it’s your home, workplace or community centre – as a visible sign of solidarity.

16 Days, 16 Actions

Every day between 25 November and 10 December, take one small action that helps make Newham – and the world – a safer, fairer place for women and girls.

Day 1 – Remembrance

Attend a vigil or light a candle in memory of those lost to or affected by gender-based violence and abuse.

Day 2 – Envisioning

Women and girls describe the world they want, free from fear and violence.

Day 3 – Listening

Acknowledge and share survivor stories with friends, families and peers.

Day 4 – Knowledge

Research gender-based violence issues and share important information.

Day 5 – Allyship

Discover tools and organisations that work with allies to tackle gender-based violence.

Day 6 – Discussion

Start conversations about what changes can be made in your home, social circle or workplace.

Day 7 – Giving

Donate to a charity supporting women and girls, or amplify their work online.

Day 8 – Inclusion

Reflect on how you or your organisation supports marginalised groups affected by gender-based violence.

Day 9 – Cultural Awareness

Learn about and share information on harmful cultural practices.

Day 10 – Youth Activism

Encourage young people to engage with youth groups working to end gender-based violence.

Day 11 – Service

Support organisations that help survivors of domestic violence or harmful practices.

Day 12 – Advocacy

Explore ways to campaign for change or sign active petitions fighting to end gender-based violence.

Day 13 – Community

Share empowering and useful resources within your community.

Day 14 – Outreach

Write a blog, article or social post about gender-based violence and how to prevent it.

Day 15 – Action

Take part in an event, campaign or local initiative.

Day 16 – Intent

Write and share your statement of intent to turn 16 days of activism into 365 days of activism.
