The Tate Institute, 1 Wythes Road, London E16 2DN, is in the Royal Docks and Silvertown area of London within the London Borough of Newham.The building, constructed in 1887 as a community facility for use by the sugar factory workers and their families, is of high importance as a recognisable community facility that has been experienced and enjoyed by local people. The heritage significance of the Tate Institute is also recognised within its designation as a locally listed building. It served as a library and air raid post during World War 2. The institute was renamed as Tate & Lyle Sports & Social Club in 1953. It closed in 1961 but its use for social events is understood to have continued into the 1990s. 

The Council are currently leading on the design, build and operate Tate Institute, within North Woolwich area, which offers a unique and striking space, close to City Airport and locally amenities. Set over 1-2 floors, the building offers a fantastic opportunity for the right tenant to locate in the fast growing and dynamic neighbourhood of North Woolwich.
