Canning Town Enterprise Hub
The Canning Town Enterprise Hub area covers approx. 60 hectares. It is bounded to the north by the Bromley-by-Bow Gasworks and Twelvetrees Park developments, the River Lea to the west, the rail corridor and Stephenson Street to the east, and Newham Way to the south. The Canning Town Enterprise Hub contains over 200,000 sqm of employment space and includes the areas identified in the Local Plan as the Cody Road Strategic Industrial Land and Bidder Street Local Mixed Use Area.
To guide future development and unlock the area’s full potential, in 2024-2025, the Council developed a Strategic Regeneration Framework (SRF) for the Canning Town Enterprise Hub area. The SRF builds on previous strategies for the area and was developed in consultation with local businesses and community organisations. The SRF was adopted by the Council in October 2025 as the key guiding document that sets out the Council’s ambitious approach for the area.

This SRF sets out a clear vision to establish the area as a thriving Enterprise Hub anchored in the principles of Newham’s Growth Plan and designed to foster an inclusive economy. It identifies opportunities to catalyse innovation in high-growth sectors such as the data economy and green industries, building on the momentum of Newham’s Data Economy and Climate Action programmes. The SRF sets out a strategic approach to the area based on 5 principles:
- Growing the role of the area as a hub for green innovation and inclusive employment opportunities.
- Improving infrastructure to support sustainable and active travel for local businesses and residents.
- Creating an inclusive public realm that supports healthy lives and enhances local uses.
- Restoring spaces for nature that are a part of the everyday experience of living and working in the area.
- Kick-starting an economy that avoids wasted resources and keeps materials at their highest value.

The SRF for Canning Town Enterprise Hub sets out a vision and plan that will be used to co-ordinate delivery across the Council and with external partners. The SRF will be used to guide future decisions by the Council to unlock growth in the area through a strategic programme of engagement, disposal, and development partnership; as well as improvements to local infrastructure, sustainability improvements and stronger local business networks.
Delivery of projects in line with the principles of the SRF is already underway, led by local businesses, developers and community groups; as well as by the Council. This includes:
- Funding is in place to construct the Mayer Parry Bridge to improve connectivity between Tower Hamlets with the Canning Town Enterprise Hub.
- Cody Dock are delivering a number of projects to improve biodiversity on the River Lea and across the Canning Town Enterprise Hub, in partnership with volunteers and local businesses.
- The Canning Town Sustainability Network has launched to unlock a collaborative approach to promoting sustainability across the area such as circular economy initiatives, renewable energy, green innovation, and biodiversity.
- Major developments are under construction and will lead to the opening up to the Leaway Path to provide a publicly accessible walking and cycling route along the River Lea.
