Little Ilford Brighter Alleyways Project
About: Little Ilford Brighter Alleyways

The Little Ilford Brighter Alleyways project has improved a number of key walking and cycling routes across the neighbourhood.
These routes were identified by residents as important connections but had issues with poor lighting, low visibility, and anti-social behaviour.
The project was shaped through community co-design, including workshops, site visits and online feedback. Residents highlighted safety, lighting, accessibility, and the overall feel of the spaces as key priorities.
As a result, the alleyways have been transformed into brighter, safer, and more welcoming routes for everyday use.
Improvements include upgraded lighting, resurfaced pathways, and creative artwork such as murals, painted surfaces, and wayfinding elements. These changes help people move through the area more easily and with greater confidence.
The project also strengthens connections between local streets, including Jack Cornwell Street, Warrior Square, nearby playgrounds and local shops.
