Regeneration project: Green Street

We are developing a range of projects designed to improve the Green Street area of the borough. You can find out more about community engagement and the findings of it, the planned improvements and projet progress on this page. Regeneration of the area is being led by our Community Wealth Building team.

Town centre strategy for Green Street

The Council will be working with local residents and businesses over the next 12 months to develop and co-design a town centre strategy for Green Street. This process will identify a set of principles, projects, and partnerships that will help to improve the town centre and will be an integral part of the Council’s ‘Towards a Better Newham’ Covid-19 and Community Wealth Building strategies.

Green Street community engagement

In May and June 2019, the Mayor of Newham and the Ward Councillors for Boleyn, Green Street East and Green Street West asked the local community to submit their ideas on how to improve the town centre. This community engagement exercise asked people to respond to these three questions:

  1. How would you like Green Street to look like in the future?
  2. How can we improve the high street?
  3. How can we make the market better?

Residents and businesses in Boleyn, Green Street East and Green Street West wards received a freepost postcard to submit their ideas or could respond online. A total of 747 responses were received, and we have now collated and published these in our Green Street community engagement findings report (PDF)

Cabinet report

A report was presented to the Cabinet on Tuesday 18 February 2020 detailing the Green Street Town Centre Programme. The Cabinet noted the report and its recommendations.
