Permitted items
You can take the following items to Jenkins Lane Re-use and Recycling Centre:
- General household rubbish (in black bags)
- Glass
- Metals
- Plastics
- Paper
- Books
- Cardboard
- Clothes and shoes
- Green garden waste
- Cooking oil
- Car batteries
- Engine oil
- Paint tins
- Furniture
- Mattresses and bed bases
- Printer cartridges
- Large electrical appliances
- Small electrical appliances
- Fluorescent tubes and energy-saving light bulbs
- Household batteries
- Bicycles
- Gas bottles (empty).
If you have waste from doing DIY such as rubble, kitchen cupboards or fencing then you need to get authorisation before visiting Jenkins Lane - See our restricted waste section.
ID requirements
Make sure you bring relevant ID. You will need to show your most recent Council Tax statement or your driving licence as proof of residence in Newham. If you do not have your ID with you then you may have to pay to use the site.
No other forms of ID are accepted at the Centre, including Council Tax payment cards.
If you are using a provisional driving licence registered to a Newham address, there must be another person in the vehicle aged 21 or over who can produce on request a full UK driving licence.
Frequent visits to Jenkins Lane
Automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras have been installed at Jenkins Lane to protect the centre from misuse by businesses. The cameras photograph the number plates of all vehicles going into the site.
Any vehicle that visits the site frequently will be flagged up by the ANPR system. When this happens, the driver will be given a letter asking them to contact us to discuss their usage of the site. Access to Jenkins Lane will be restricted after this has happened.
