Normal points of entry to schools for September 2027
For ‘Reception places’ there are three main options:
- Apply on time for a Reception place at an infant or primary school by the closing date of 15 January 2027.
- Apply after the closing date. Your application will be treated as a late application and processed under the co-ordinated Reception admissions process.
- Apply at the end of the Reception year and apply for a Year 1 place through the In-Year Admissions process.

For ‘Junior places (Year 3)’, there are three main options:
- Apply on time for a Year-3 place when moving from an infant or junior school by the closing date of 15 January 2027.
- Apply after the closing date. Your application will be treated as a late application and processed under the co-ordinated Junior admissions process.
- Apply at the end of the Year-2 and apply for a Year-3 place through the In-Year Admissions process.
For Secondary places, there are four main options:
- Apply on time while your child is in Year 6 for a Year 7 place by 31 October 2026.
- Apply on time with an approved Out of Usual Year Group Authorisation for a Year 7 place by 31 October 2026.
- Apply after the closing date. Your application will be treated as a late application and processed through the co-ordinated secondary admissions process.
- Apply at the end of Year 6 for a Year 8 place through the In-Year Admissions process.
For University Technical College (UTC) or Studio School places (PDF), there are three main options: Please note that some UTCs and Studio Schools offer places in Year 9 instead of Year 10. For example, Newham’s UTC, London Design and Engineering (LDE), offers entry in Year 9 not Year 10. Please visit the school’s website for more information.
- Apply on time for a Year-10 place on-time at a UTC or Studio School by the closing date of 31 October 2026.
- Apply after the closing date. Your application will be treated as a late application and processed under the co-ordinated UTC or Studio School admissions process.
- Apply at the end of the Year 9 and apply for a Year 10 place through the In-Year Admissions process.
- For Newham’s UTC, London Design and Engineering (LDE), applications start a year earlier in Year 8. See LDE’s website for more information.
