Bulky household waste collections

New and replacement bins, bulky waste and garden waste disruption due to Covid-19

Due to staff shortages we are unable to fulfil:
  • New bin deliveries
  • Bulky waste collections
  • Garden waste collections
Staff shortages are expected to last until April 2020 but could go on longer depending on the ongoing impact of self-isolation on our services.

If you are missing a bin please double bag your waste and put black sacks out for collection within your property boundary.

Please keep garden waste in your garden and bulky waste items within your property or property boundary.

You can also take garden waste and bulky waste items to Jenkins Lane Reuse and Recycling Centre if you are not self-isolating.

If you have been diagnosed or are displaying symptoms, personal waste (such as used tissues) and disposable cleaning cloths can be stored securely within disposable rubbish bags. These bags should be placed into another bag, tied securely and kept separate from other waste. This should be put aside for at least 72 hours before being put in your usual external household waste bin.

We thank you in advance for your understanding during this difficult time.

This page will be updated periodically.

This is for when you have large unwanted items that will not fit into your bin, such as furniture and fridges.

This service is for household items only. We offer a commercial waste service for businesses in Newham.

How it works

  • If you’re a Newham resident you can have your bulky waste collected three times a year for free - the year will run from April  – March.
  • We’ll take up to six items per collection.
  • After the third free collection the charge will be £20 and will be for up to six items.
If you have just moved into your property and have not used your three free bulky waste collections but you’re having problems, please call us on 020 8430 2000, press option 4 and ask for bulky waste. Our customer services team will be able to help you book a free bulky waste collection online.

Book your collection

Before you apply

Check we can collect the bulky waste items you want to get rid of. If you have garden waste you will need to apply for a separate green garden waste collection

Put out your items

Put your bulky items in your front garden as soon as you’ve booked your collection. We may collect them straight away.
Do not put your items out before you have booked a collection.
You must have a valid reference number before you put rubbish anywhere in your front garden other than in the bin. If you don't, you could receive a £110 penalty fine.

If you do not have a front garden, leave bulky items for a booked collection next to your rubbish bin but don’t obstruct the pavement.

If you live in a block of flats, ask your caretaker or housing manager about where to leave bulky items for a booked collection.
Make sure the items can be clearly seen and we can remove them safely.

What happens next?

We aim to collect your items within two working days.

We try to recycle as many items as possible. This means we may collect your items at different times using different vehicles.
