Community Events and Street Parties
We launched the King's Coronation Grant to support to residents who were interested in hosting big lunches, street parties and community events to mark the coronation of King Charles III.
Throughout the coronation weekend, local communities in the borough will host over 100 celebratory events from community lunches to street and garden parties. Our partner, Eden Project Communities, will provide free training and support to residents hosting big lunches and community events, to help boost organiser’s confidence and ensure their events are memorable.
About Eden Project Communities
The Coronation Big Lunch will be overseen and organised by the Big Lunch team at Eden Project Communities. The Big Lunch is an idea from Eden Project Communities, made possible by The National Lottery, that brings millions of people together annually to boost community spirit, reduce loneliness and support charities and good causes. Her Majesty The Queen Consort has been Patron of the Big Lunch since 2013.

Street closures
To ensure the safety of our residents during the coronation celebration period, the council will put in place some street closures from 7 to 10 May to support the street parties.
As part Newham’s coronation programme, there will be 18 street parties that require road closures.
