The Newham Pension Fund is part of the local government pension scheme (LGPS). It is governed by the LGPS regulations and is open to all local government employees. We are the administrating authority of the fund, and we are responsible for its proper management.
The Pension Fund accounts are separate from the Council’s accounts and are not included in the Council’s General Fund revenue account, balance sheet or other statements.
The Pension Fund needs to ensure that it can meet all future pension payments over the long term for its scheme beneficiaries, these are:
- Current pensioners
- Future pensioners and
- The employers.
The Pensions Committee is the designated committee responsible for the stewardship and assets of the Pension Fund and makes decisions within the context of permitted guidance and regulations, focussed solely on managing the Pension Fund in the best interests of scheme beneficiaries.

Local Pension Board
The Pensions Board oversees the administration of the Newham Pension Fund on behalf of the Administrating Authority. The Pensions Board is supported by officers, an Independent Chair, and by assurance statements and information provided by external service providers to the London Borough of Newham Pension Fund.
