Commercial Parking Bay Suspensions
To clear or reserve on-street parking bays within one of the Residential Parking Zones (RPZs), you will need to apply for a Parking Bay suspension.
Eligibility
You must apply for a Commercial Parking Bay Suspension if:
- you are NOT applying from a residential address in Newham
- you are NOT a resident of Newham
Disabled parking bays will only be suspended if it is absolutely necessary or if emergency maintenance works need to be undertaken.
Suspension of parking spaces in car parks (commercial only)
Parking spaces in car parks owned by the council can be suspended for reasons such as building works, maintenance or filming. The cost includes the parking charges in the car park, plus an administration fee.

Costs
Charges apply per bay each day; plus, an administration fee per location.
Daily fee per bay:
- £50 fee per bay, per day (applies to all Residential parking zones)
Administration fee per location:
- £200 if the suspension is less than three days
- £400 if the suspension is three or more days
A location is a single street where one or multiple bays are suspended.
If multiple locations are required, you need to complete a separate application for each.
To pay for multiple locations with a single payment, please use the ‘add to basket’ feature of the online application system (MiPermit) and make full payment at the end.
Suspensions of over 50 bays
Each application allows you to select a maximum of 50 bays per location.
If you require more than 50 bays within an individual location:

How to apply
Applications should be made a minimum of 10 working days before the date the suspension is required.
Applications submitted with less than 10 working days’ notice may be rejected.
You will need:
- a location map with the bay(s) to be suspended clearly marked, such as a Traffic Management Plan
- the address of parking bays to be suspended
- a written statement describing the precise location and explanation of the reasons why you require the parking bays to be suspended
- payment card details (Visa or MasterCard debit or credit cards)

- Visit MiPermit website.
- Go to 'Buy Digital Permits'.
- Select 'Commercial Suspension Application'.
- Complete application form and upload documents.

What happens next
You will receive an email confirming your application submission. Requests will be processed in approximately 2-3 working days.
While the application is being processed, the payment amount is placed on hold on the card details provided in the application.
If your application is approved, the payment is taken using the card details provided. If rejected, the payment amount is returned to the card automatically.
You will receive a second email with the outcome of your application.
Cancelling or changing an application
You can cancel your application up to 5 days before the suspension is due to start, however we cannot refund the administration fee.
If you change your application, you may need to pay an additional £25 administration fee.
