Admissions to secondary school

Starting in Year 7 - September 2021

All school pupils in year 6 will move up to year 7 in secondary school in September 2021. This is known as primary to secondary transition.

For information on how to apply for entry into other year groups in secondary school, go to our In year admissions page.

Starting Year 7 at secondary school

For all children born between 1 September 2009 and 31 August 2010, their parents/carers must to apply for a secondary school place for September 2021.

If a child is currently on roll in year 6 at an All Through School (Chobham Academy, Langdon Academy or School 21) their parents/carers do not need to submit an application, if they do not want their child to be considered for any other secondary schools, as they will automatically move up to year 7 in their school in September 2021.  But they must apply if they do want to be considered for another school.

In London since 2004, the 33 London boroughs and some of the Home Counties operate a Pan London coordinated scheme 2021/22 (PDF), every family must apply to their home borough.  This means if they live in Newham they must apply through Newham even if their child attends a primary school outside of Newham or they are only interested in secondary schools in another borough.

Remember, parents/carers must apply for a place, even if:

  • They want their child to go to the local school.

  • Their child has an older brother or sister at the school.

The law does not allow us to reserve year 7 places.
