On this page you will find out what you can borrow from libraries, how many items you can borrow and for how long.

What you can borrow

You must have a library card to borrow library items.

All of our libraries have new books every week. Come and see us and check out the latest best sellers and quick picks or search for library items online.

You can borrow books for up to three weeks.
 

You can also borrow audio-visual items such as:

  • talking books for up to three weeks
  • music for up to three weeks
  • films for up to one week
  • audiobooks and eBooks for up to two weeks.
 

Number of items you can borrow at one time

Adults can borrow up to:
  • ten books
  • five ebooks or audio books
  • four audio-visual items.

Young people up to 13 years old can borrow up to:

  • eight books
  • five ebooks or audio books
  • two audio-visual items.
 

Borrowing charges

You must only pay a charge to:

  • borrow or renew DVDs
  • reserve books if you don't live in Newham
  • use the printer or photocopier.

However, you may have to pay a fine if you return an item late.
