What is the Healthy School Streets programme?

Healthy School Streets are roads outside and surrounding a school with a timed restriction on motorised traffic during school drop-off and pick-up times. Currently Newham’s Healthy School Streets are enforced by Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras, but some sites may also include bollards, fences or volunteer stewards.

Healthy School Streets provides clear spaces outside of the school to encourage active journeys and provide a safer, healthier and more pleasant environment for parents and children at drop off and pick up times.
