A Charity Business parking permit allows individuals employed at Newham-based charities to use a vehicle for charity purposes across the borough.
This permit lets you park in permit holder only bays and shared use bays within any Residential Parking Zone and Industrial Parking Zone.
Charity Business permits can be purchased for a period of either:
- 12 months
- 1 month (with the option for automatic renewal renew up to one year)
Eligibility
To be eligible for a Charity Business parking permit, you must meet ALL the following criteria:
- be employed full or part-time by a registered charity in Newham
- the charity must be registered at a business address in Newham (applications from a residential addresses will not be accepted)
- the charity's address must not be part of a car-free development
- you require the vehicle to travel in and around Newham for charitable duties (excluding commuting to or between places of work)
- the vehicle must be registered in the UK (foreign vehicles will not be accepted)
- your vehicle must not exceed 2.3m in height and/or 5.3m in length
If the vehicle is found to be larger than these dimensions, the permit will not be valid and will be subject to cancellation. The vehicle may also receive a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) or be towed.

Charity Business parking permits are charged based on the emissions of the vehicle.

How to apply
You will need:
A letter from the charity on headed paper and dated within three months confirming:
- your employment
- vehicle registration
- explain why the vehicle is needed to perform charity purposes
- your vehicle insurance covers charitable use

Proof of charity status
- Evidence from the Charity Commission or HMRC confirming charity status.

Proof of address of the charity, for example either:
- an official lease agreement
- current national non-domestic rate demand
- bank statement
- utility bill dated within three months

Vehicle Documents
If the vehicle is owned or leased by you, you must provide:
- UK Vehicle Registration Document (V5C or logbook)
or - lease/hire agreement in your name and address (the agreement should include the Companies House registration number for the hire/lease company)
If the vehicle is a company vehicle, you must provide:
- a letter from your employer on headed paper, dated within the last three months, confirming your employment, name, address, vehicle registration, and authorisation to drive the company vehicle.

You can apply online using MiPermit
- Register for a business account on MiPermit Newham, or log in.
- Go to 'Buy digital permits' in your MiPermit account.
- Click on 'Charity Business Permits' and complete the application form.
- Upload required documents.
- Make payment using a credit or debit card.

What happens next
Once you have submitted your application and made payment, you will receive an email confirmation the same day.
Your parking permit is then automatically activated (from the date you requested it to start).
Charity Business parking permits are virtual, you do not need to display a permit on your vehicle.
Further checks will be carried out after the application is submitted. If any details are found to be incorrect, the permit may be cancelled and only part refunded.
Charity Business parking permits must be renewed annually.
