If you live in Newham and have a vehicle, to be able to park on the street in the Residential Parking Zone (RPZ) where you live during the restricted hours, you are required to apply for a Resident parking permit.
Resident parking permits can be purchased in periods of:
- 12 months, or
- 1 month (with the option for automatic renewal up to one year)
Eligibility
To be eligible for a Resident parking permit, you must:
- live within a Residential Parking Zone in Newham
- not live in a car-free development (Residents in these areas can buy visitor parking permits instead)
- ensure the vehicle does not exceed 2.3m in height and/or 5.3m in length (If a vehicle is larger than these dimensions, the permit will not be valid and will be subject to cancellation, the vehicle may also receive Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) and could be towed)

How to apply
You can apply for a Resident parking permit online using MiPermit.
- Register for an account on MiPermit Newham, or log in.
- Go to 'Buy digital permits' in your MiPermit account.
- Click on 'Residents Permits' and complete the application form.
- Upload required documents.
- Make payment using a credit or debit card.
You will need:
Proof of Address:
Documents should be in the name of the registered keeper/ leaseholder of the vehicle.
- council Tax bill valid for the current financial year
or
- a tenancy agreement covering the current financial year
AND
- utility bill or bank statement dated within the last three months

Vehicle documents
- V5C document (log book) clearly stating your name and Newham address
or
- Motability Certificate/Motability Hire agreement (not the Motability insurance). Uploaded files must clearly show that you are the Motability customer/hirer and state your name and Newham address.

What happens next
Once you have submitted your application and made payment, you will receive an email confirmation the same day.
The parking permit is then automatically activated (from the date you requested it to start from).
Resident parking permits are virtual, you do not need to display a permit on your vehicle.
Further checks will be carried out after the application is submitted. If any details are found to be incorrect, the permit may be cancelled and only part refunded.
Resident permits must be renewed annually.
