Council

Newham Council is the local authority responsible for providing public services and political leadership within the London Borough Of Newham.

  • Political make-up

    The political make-up of the Council is made up of the Mayor (Sir Robin Wales - Labour) and 60 Councillors (currently 54 are Labour, 3 are Christian Peoples Alliance and 3 are Respect).

  • Mayor and Executive

    The Mayor is responsible for all executive decisions and provides strategic leadership.

  • Councillors

    Councillors or 'Members' help the Mayor run the council on behalf of the community.

  • Voting and Elections

    Every four years our 60 Councillors and Mayor are elected. The next elections for Mayor of London and the London Assembly will take place on May 1 2008.
